Southern Border Security Still Remains a Major Concern

Despite increased efforts by DHS to protect our borders, recent reports suggest that they have not been successful in preventing illegal immigration or drug trafficking across our southern border - leaving us far from having a safe and secure border.

When asked if the southern border is secure, the response was anything but reassuring. Despite increased efforts to protect our borders, it appears that we are still far from having a safe and secure border. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been working hard to implement new security measures at the southern border in order to reduce illegal immigration and drug trafficking. However, recent reports suggest that these efforts have not been successful in preventing people from crossing illegally into the United States. According to DHS statistics, more than 500,000 people were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border in 2019 alone. This number is up significantly from 2018 when only 396,579 people were apprehended at the same location. Additionally, there have been reports of smugglers using sophisticated methods such as tunnels and drones to transport drugs across the border undetected by authorities. These numbers demonstrate just how vulnerable our southern border remains despite increased security measures taken by DHS over the past few years. The reality is that without stronger enforcement and better technology at our disposal, it will be nearly impossible for us to fully secure our borders against illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
