Santa's Last Flight

This poem reflects on the shocking news that Santa Claus was shot down after violating Russian airspace one fateful night before Christmas Eve and how his legacy will live on despite his untimely demise.

The news of the day, an awful sight, Santa shot down after a midnight flight. He flew too close to Russian skies, A tragedy that no one denies. No presents for children this Christmas Day, The joy of the season has been taken away. The world is in shock and disbelief, At what has happened to old Saint Nick. His sleigh was filled with toys and cheer, But now it lies broken and full of fear. What could have caused such a tragic fate? For Santa to be shot down so late? The truth may never be known or seen, As he soared through the night so serene. A momentary lapse of judgement perhaps?                                                Or a miscommunication between two sides?                                                                                                   Whatever it was cost him his life.                                                                                                              Now we are left with sorrow and strife.                                                                                                                   No more laughter or joy will he bring,                                                                                                                 His time on Earth has come to an end.                                                                                                                 We can only hope that his legacy lives on,~              In our hearts until another dawn.~
