Ruby Ridge

This poem reflects on the tragedy that occurred at Ruby Ridge when FBI and ATF agents surrounded an Idaho family in 1992 resulting in death and injury to many members of that family including a teenage boy and his mother while she held her child in her arms.

A black-and-white image depicting a mountain landscape with a single person standing atop it looking out into the distance with their back to the viewer.

The FBI and ATF, so bold and brave, Surrounded a family in the mountains of Idaho. The teenage boy and family dog were slain, And then the mother was shot with a child in her arms. No mercy for this family that day, As they were treated like criminals in their own home. The horror of what happened there still lingers today, As if the screams of pain still echo through the valley below. No justice was served to those who had done wrong, For it seemed as if no one cared at all. A tragedy that will forever live on in our minds so long, Reminding us of the power of injustice we must not let fall. Though Putin's kill squad may have been far away, We must remember this moment and never forget its name. For what happened at Ruby Ridge that fateful day, Will be remembered by all who heard its tragic tale.
