The Sky and the Mirror

This poem explores how we are often faced with difficult decisions between exploring our external world or diving deeper into our internal selves - both paths offering us different rewards but also posing different challenges along our journey through life.

A picture of a person standing between two paths - one leading up into a starry night sky and another leading down into a reflective pool of water surrounded by trees in a forest clearing (or something similar).

Sometimes the sky I stare, Sometimes the mirror I study. For the sky is limitless, But so does the mirror appear to be. One floods in the questions, Other lets the answers free. I let the scales of my appetite decide, If it's with the sky or with the mirror I agree. The stars above seem like a million eyes, Staring back at me from an infinite size. A vastness that can never be measured, It's beauty and grandeur cannot be treasured. The reflection in front of me holds secrets untold, My innermost thoughts and feelings behold. It shows what lies within my soul, The good and bad that make me whole. So when I'm faced with this decision to make, I must ponder which one will bring me more awake? To explore outwards or to look within? Will I choose to fly high or dive deep within? Sometimes I feel pulled towards one side more than another, Sometimes it’s hard for me to discover. But no matter what my heart desires most, It’s only by looking both ways that will help me coast!
