Lewis Hamilton, the six-time Formula One world champion, is set to take his first laps behind the wheel of his new car, the W14, at Silverstone. The British driver has been eagerly awaiting this moment since he signed with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport for 2021. Hamilton expressed his excitement for this upcoming opportunity on Twitter, writing “Jumping onboard with Lewis for his first laps behind the wheel of W14 at Silverstone” and including a picture of himself wearing a racing suit and helmet. He also posted a video on Instagram showing him driving around the track in an older model of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport car. The 35-year-old racer has had an impressive career thus far, having won seven championships and achieved 94 race wins throughout his career. He currently holds records for most pole positions (97) and most points scored in a season (413). Hamilton is also known as one of the most successful drivers in Formula One history and is considered by many to be one of the greatest drivers ever. This year marks Hamilton’s 15th season in Formula One racing, which will make him one of only two drivers to have competed in that many seasons alongside Michael Schumacher. It will also be his ninth season with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport after signing with them back in 2013. The team recently unveiled their 2021 car – the W14 – which features some minor changes from last year’s model such as a new front wing design and wider tires. This should give Hamilton an edge over other competitors as he looks to defend his championship title this year. Hamilton is no stranger to success at Silverstone either; he has won there five times throughout his career including last year when he clinched victory despite starting from third place on the grid due to penalties imposed by stewards during qualifying rounds earlier that day. It will certainly be exciting to see how well Hamilton fares when he takes his first laps behind the wheel of W14 at Silverstone later this month!
