Avalanche Secure Great Point in Overtime Thriller

The Colorado Avalanche had a thrilling game against the San Jose Sharks last night, with the Avs coming out on top with a great point secured in overtime. The Avalanche have been struggling to find their footing lately, but this was a big step forward for them as they look to make a push for the playoffs. The game started off slowly, with neither team able to gain an advantage over the other. The first period ended scoreless, and it looked like it might be another long night for the Avs. But then things changed in the second period when Nathan MacKinnon scored on a power play goal to give Colorado the lead. The Sharks answered back quickly though, tying up the game shortly after and setting up an exciting third period. The third period was full of back-and-forth action as both teams fought hard for control of the game. Neither team could break through until late in regulation when Tyson Barrie scored on a wrist shot from just inside the blue line to put Colorado ahead once again. Unfortunately, San Jose responded almost immediately with their own goal and sent the game into overtime tied at two goals apiece. In overtime both teams battled hard but neither could find that all important winning goal until late in OT when Matt Duchene found himself alone in front of Sharks goalie Martin Jones and put away his chance to secure an extra point for Colorado and send everyone home happy. It was an incredible finish to what had been an entertaining match throughout and gave fans something to cheer about after what has been a difficult season so far for Colorado's hockey team. This win is huge for Colorado as they look ahead towards making their playoff push later this season, and gives them some much needed momentum going forward into their next few games which will be crucial if they want any chance of making it into post-season play this year. With this great point secured by MacKinnon's heroics last night we can only hope that they can get another one soon enough!
