Silvester night, in Neukölln, Sonnenallee. The air is filled with fire and smoke, and the streets are a warzone. No one knows when the bus will come, or if it ever will at all. So we must take a taxi home to safety, away from the bombs that fall. A thousand crackers ringing through the night like a thousand bells of doom. The sky is lit up with fireworks that make us feel so small in this room. We can hear them laughing and singing as they set off their rockets high above. But for us there's no joy here tonight, just fear and trembling of love. We can only hope that our journey home will be safe from danger and strife. That we'll make it back unscathed by morning light to end this Silvester night of life.
