The first week and a half of the New Year has been a tumultuous one for Russia. In what can only be described as an unprecedented series of events, Cheburashka Supremacy has taken hold in the country, resulting in the fall of Soledar and a newfound Wagner mindset. The events began with a surprise announcement from President Vladimir Putin that he had appointed Cheburashka, an anthropomorphic Russian cartoon character, to serve as Prime Minister. The news was met with both shock and excitement by many Russians who had grown weary of the same old politicians. Cheburashka wasted no time in making his presence felt; within days he had enacted sweeping reforms that saw Soledar – one of Russia’s oldest cities – fall into disrepair. Many residents were forced to flee their homes as Cheburashka implemented his vision for a new “utopia” built on Wagnerian principles. In addition to this drastic change in infrastructure, Cheburashka also imposed strict regulations on citizens’ behavior. He declared that all citizens must adhere to Wagnerian ideals or face severe consequences. This includes dressing according to Wagnerian fashion standards and speaking only German when conversing with other citizens or officials. These changes have caused much unrest among Russians who feel that their rights are being infringed upon by this new regime. Protests have broken out across the country as people demand an end to Cheburashka’s rule and call for more democratic representation in government decisions. It remains unclear how long this state of affairs will last or what further changes may be implemented by Cheburashka in the coming weeks and months; however it is certain that these events will shape Russian politics for years to come.
