Despite a challenging year for billionaires, many have stepped up to the plate and made an impact on their communities. From donating to charities and providing aid to those affected by the pandemic, to creating jobs and investing in small businesses, these billionaires are showing that they are committed to helping others. One example is Jeff Bezos, who donated $100 million dollars of his own money towards COVID-19 relief efforts. This donation was matched by Amazon’s employees and customers, bringing the total amount of donations close to $300 million. Additionally, he has also pledged $10 billion dollars towards fighting climate change through his new Bezos Earth Fund. Other billionaires such as Bill Gates have been equally generous with their wealth this year. He has donated over $1 billion dollars towards fighting COVID-19 worldwide and another $2 billion dollars towards researching treatments for diseases like Alzheimer’s and cancer. He has also created a fund dedicated solely to providing educational opportunities for students from low-income backgrounds in the US. In addition to philanthropy, many billionaires have been investing in small businesses throughout 2020 as well. Warren Buffett recently invested in an online grocery delivery service called DoorDash which is now valued at over $16 billion dollars – making it one of the most valuable start-ups in America today! Similarly, Mark Zuckerberg has invested heavily into virtual reality technology which could revolutionize how we interact with each other online in years to come. These examples show that despite difficult times ahead for billionaires, they are still willing to give back and make a difference within their communities. It is inspiring that even during these trying times some of our world’s wealthiest individuals are still taking actionable steps towards helping those less fortunate than them – proving that there is hope even during dark times!
