In a shocking turn of events, racehorse Ef Forlia was forced to retire from the race track after suffering from heart arrhythmia. The incident occurred at the #Kyoto Memorial, where Ef Forlia was competing in the final round of the race. Just before reaching the finish line, jockey Shota Kato had to pull up his horse and dismount due to health concerns. The medical team at Kyoto Memorial quickly examined Ef Forlia and confirmed that he had suffered an arrhythmia episode. This is a condition where the heart beats too fast or too slow, causing it to not pump enough blood throughout the body. While this condition can be managed with medication, it is considered dangerous for horses running at high speeds on a racetrack. As such, Ef Forlia was immediately retired from racing and will now live out his days in peace as a companion horse for its owner's family. The news has been met with shock and sadness by many in Japan's horseracing community who have followed Ef Forlia's career since he first entered racing back in 2017. He has won numerous races over his three-year career including two Grade 1 races earlier this year at Tokyo Racecourse and Nakayama Racecourse respectively. He also placed second in last month's Grade 2 race at Hanshin Racecourse which would have been his last before retiring if not for this unfortunate incident today. Ef Forlia's owners have released a statement expressing their gratitude towards everyone who has supported their horse throughout his career as well as thanking all those involved in ensuring that he received proper medical attention when needed most. They are hopeful that despite having to end his racing career prematurely, Ef Forlia will still enjoy a happy life with them going forward as they look forward to spending more time together away from the racetrack environment they were so used to being part of together these past few years.
