Google Makes Changes to College/University Knowledge Panel

Google has recently made changes to its college/university knowledge panel, at least on mobile. The pills up top that used to be there are now gone and replaced with a large “Things to Know” module containing much of the same information. This new module needs to be expanded in order to see all of the options available. The change is part of Google’s effort to focus more on higher education and make it easier for students, parents, and educators alike to find relevant information about colleges and universities. It is also intended to provide more comprehensive data than what was previously available in the knowledge panel. The new module includes details such as location, size, tuition fees, admission rate, student body size, faculty-student ratio, graduation rate, acceptance rate and more. It also provides links for additional resources such as official websites and social media accounts for each school. Additionally, users can compare multiple schools side by side using the “Compare Schools” feature. The changes have been met with mixed reactions from users who are both excited about the added convenience of having all this information in one place but also concerned about how it might affect their search results when looking for specific schools or programs. Some users have expressed frustration over not being able to quickly access some of the information they were used to seeing in the old knowledge panel format. Overall though, it seems like most people are happy with these changes as they make it easier for them to get an overview of different colleges or universities without having to do extensive research on their own.
