Automation of the Drive-Thru

This soliloquy reflects on McDonald's decision to test their first cashless automated drive-thru restaurant where there will be no human interactions. It laments the loss of human contact and expresses concern about this new era of automation that technology has brought upon us.

A cartoon image of a car driving up to an automated drive-thru window. The car has a confused expression on its face while the window is blank and robotic looking.

O McDonald's, what a brave new world you have wrought! No more human interactions at the drive-thru? Aye, 'tis true - no cashiers to be found! Where once we'd wait in line, now we can just drive around. To pay for our meals with nary a glance, We'll use cards or phones and not need to dance. What strange times these are that technology brings us near, Forgetting the human touch as automation draws us near. No more pleasantries exchanged between customer and clerk; No more friendly faces at the window - how stark! Though convenience is gained by such an automated space, The lack of humanity leaves me with a bitter taste.
