When asked about the challenges of attending one of the world’s most elite universities, Harvard student Charles Jones has a unique response. “So, whenever I think of my Harvard-related problems — like waltzing through the cold to classes or bearing the enormity of study materials — I remind myself that nobody ever has a “Harvard problem” if they were not in Harvard. Mine is a good problem.” Jones is no stranger to hard work and dedication; he was accepted into Harvard after excelling academically at his high school in Massachusetts. But even with his strong academic background, Jones admits that he had to make some major adjustments when he arrived on campus. He says that it took him some time to adjust to the workload and expectations associated with attending an Ivy League university like Harvard. But despite all the challenges, Jones remains positive about his experience at Harvard. He says that while it can be difficult at times, he knows that all of his hard work will pay off in the end. “I know that I have made sacrifices for this opportunity and I don’t take it for granted," he said. "I am grateful for every day I get to spend here and every lesson I learn." Jones also believes that attending an elite university like Harvard provides students with invaluable experiences they may not find elsewhere. He points out how being surrounded by so many talented peers can help push students to reach their full potential both inside and outside of the classroom setting. In addition, Jones emphasizes how important it is for students to recognize their privilege when attending such an esteemed institution as well as understand what kind of impact they can have on society after graduation. “It’s important for us as students here at Harvard to remember our responsibility towards making sure we use our education and resources wisely," said Jones."We must strive to make sure we are using our knowledge and skillset in ways which benefit those around us." At the end of day, Charles hopes other aspiring college students realize just how much potential lies within them regardless if they attend an Ivy League school or not: “No matter where you go or what you do, never forget your worth – you are capable of achieving great things!”
