For years, a popular tradition among friends at West Coast College (WCC) has been to grab a few beers at the bar, find their own private classroom, and spend three hours watching a chick flick. However, this beloved pastime is now being threatened by student life. The group of friends who have been partaking in this activity for years are known as the WCC friend group. The group consists of mostly couples who enjoy spending time together while enjoying a movie night. For them, it was an opportunity to relax and bond with each other after a long week of classes and studying. However, student life recently decided that they would no longer allow students to use classrooms for private activities such as these movie nights. They argued that the rooms should be used for educational purposes only and that any non-academic activities should take place outside of school grounds. This decision has left many members of the WCC friend group feeling frustrated and disappointed. “It’s really unfair that we can’t do something like this anymore," said one member of the group who wished to remain anonymous. "We were just trying to have some fun on our own time without bothering anyone else." Many members of the WCC friend group feel like they are being unfairly targeted by student life due to their choice of entertainment. They argue that there are plenty of other activities taking place on campus which could potentially be more disruptive than their movie nights but yet those activities are still allowed to continue unhindered. Despite their disappointment, many members have expressed hope that student life will reconsider its decision or at least provide an alternative solution so they can continue their tradition in some way or another. Until then, however, it looks like the days of beer-filled movie nights may be over for the WCC friend group – at least for now.
