It’s a familiar scene for many South Asian children - their parents encouraging them to focus on their studies and get good grades. But what happens when a wedding invitation arrives just days before an important exam? For many Desi families, the answer is clear - go to the wedding! The idea of attending weddings while studying for exams may seem counterintuitive, but it is actually quite common in South Asian culture. Many Desi parents believe that attending weddings and other social events can be beneficial for their children, as they provide an opportunity to network with potential employers or learn about different cultures. As one mother put it, “It’s important to keep up with family traditions and stay connected with our community. It also helps my son make connections he wouldn’t have otherwise made.” In addition to providing networking opportunities, attending weddings can also be a great way for students to take a break from studying and relax. After all, who doesn’t love getting dressed up in traditional clothing and dancing the night away? As one student said, “I always look forward to going to weddings because I know I will get some time off from studying and have fun with my friends. Plus I get to eat lots of delicious food!” However, there are some drawbacks associated with attending weddings right before exams. For example, it can be difficult for students to find time to study after coming home late from a wedding reception or dealing with jet lag if they are traveling out of town for the event. In addition, there is always the risk that students will become too distracted by all of the festivities and forget about their studies altogether! Ultimately though, most Desi parents believe that attending weddings while preparing for exams is not only acceptable but encouraged - as long as students don’t let themselves become too distracted by all of the fun activities at hand! So if you receive an invitation right before your next big test or exam - don’t worry; your parents will understand if you decide to attend!
