Climate Change Continues to Worsen Despite International Efforts

Despite international efforts, a new report from the IPCC finds that global temperatures will likely increase by 3 degrees Celsius or more by 2100 unless drastic measures are taken soon. Many governments appear unwilling or unable to take necessary action which could lead us towards disaster if left unchecked.

The global climate crisis continues to worsen despite international efforts to reduce emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently released a report that found that global temperatures are likely to rise by 3 degrees Celsius or more by the end of this century, even if countries meet their current commitments under the Paris Agreement. This would have devastating consequences for our planet, including extreme weather events, sea level rise, and increased risk of drought and famine. The report also noted that while some countries have made progress in reducing emissions, many are still not doing enough. The United States is one example; President Trump has rolled back many environmental regulations put in place by his predecessor and has yet to commit to any meaningful action on climate change. In addition, developing countries such as India and China continue to rely heavily on coal-fired power plants for energy production, contributing significantly to global emissions. It is clear that much more needs to be done if we are going to avoid catastrophic levels of warming in the future. Governments must take bold action now or face dire consequences down the road. Unfortunately, it appears that many governments around the world are still not taking this issue seriously enough—a mistake which could prove disastrous for our planet’s future.
