Ukraine Family Files Lawsuit Against Baldwin

A new lawsuit has been filed against actor Alec Baldwin on behalf of Halyna Hutchins’ parents and younger sister in Ukraine. The lawsuit, which was filed in the Supreme Court of New York County, alleges that Baldwin defamed and caused emotional distress to the family by making false statements about them. The allegations stem from a tweet posted by Baldwin in December 2019, where he accused Halyna Hutchins’ father of being a “criminal” and her mother of being an “accomplice”. He also accused her younger sister of being a “co-conspirator”. The family claims that these accusations are false and have caused them significant emotional distress. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, negligent infliction of emotional distress, civil conspiracy and vicarious liability. It also seeks punitive damages for malicious conduct and reckless disregard for the truth or falsity of the statements made by Baldwin. Halyna Hutchins is an American citizen who was born in Ukraine but moved to the United States with her family when she was six years old. She is currently living in California and working as a software engineer at Google. Her parents still live in Ukraine with her younger sister who is 17 years old. In response to the lawsuit, Baldwin released a statement denying any wrongdoing on his part and saying that he had no intention to cause harm or distress to anyone involved in this case. He also said that he will vigorously defend himself against any claims made against him in court.
