Jackson, Mississippi Working to Restore Water Pressure

The city of Jackson, Mississippi is making strides towards restoring water pressure in its water system. After issuing a citywide boil water notice, the city has been working hard to return pressure to the system and ensure that all citizens have access to clean drinking water. Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said in a statement that the City of Jackson is “committed to ensuring our residents have access to safe and reliable drinking water.” He added that the city is “working diligently with state and federal partners to restore full pressure as quickly as possible.” The boil water notice was issued after a drop in pressure due to an equipment failure at one of the City's wells. As a result, there was concern about potential contamination from bacteria or other microorganisms in the drinking water supply. The City of Jackson has been taking steps since then to repair and replace any faulty equipment and restore normal operations. In addition, crews are conducting flushing activities throughout the affected areas of town in order to clear out any remaining contaminants from the pipes. This process can take several days but will help ensure that all citizens have access to clean drinking water once again. The City has also been providing bottled water for those who need it while repairs are being made and normal operations are restored. They have also set up additional locations where citizens can pick up free cases of bottled water if needed during this time period. The City of Jackson is doing everything they can right now to make sure their citizens have access to safe drinking water once again as soon as possible. With their efforts so far, they should be able restore full pressure soon enough so everyone can go back about their daily lives without worry or concern about contaminated drinking supplies or lack thereof.
