Podemos Galicia has announced that their candidate for the upcoming general election will be Yolanda Díaz. The party’s leadership has also announced their intention to run in 49 municipalities and form alliances in six of the seven cities. The announcement was made by the Secretary-General of Podemos Galicia, Noelia Blanco, during a press conference held earlier today. Blanco expressed her confidence in Díaz’s candidacy and highlighted her experience in politics and activism. “Yolanda is an experienced politician who has dedicated her life to fighting for social justice and equality,” said Blanco. “We are confident that she will make a great candidate for our party and represent us well in the upcoming elections.” Díaz is no stranger to politics; she previously served as Deputy Minister of Labour from 2015 to 2018 under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. She also ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Santiago de Compostela in 2019, but still managed to secure more than 10% of the vote despite not winning the election. In addition to announcing their candidate for the general election, Podemos Galicia also revealed their plans to run candidates in 49 municipalities across Galicia and form alliances with other parties in six of the seven cities within the region – A Coruña, Ferrol, Lugo, Ourense, Pontevedra and Vigo – with only Santiago de Compostela being excluded from this list due to its size and population density. The news was welcomed by many members of Podemos Galicia who had been calling on the party leadership to announce their plans ahead of next month’s general election. “It is important that we have clarity about our plans so that we can focus our efforts on campaigning effectively over these next few weeks," said one member who wished to remain anonymous. "I am glad that we now know who our candidate will be and what our strategy is going forward."
