Florida Man Sentenced for Plot to Kill Ex with Water Gun

A Florida man has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a plot to kill his ex-girlfriend with a water gun. The man, identified as John Doe, was arrested in August 2019 after police received a tip from the victim’s family about the plan. The investigation revealed that Doe had purchased a water gun and was planning to use it to shoot his ex-girlfriend at her home. He also allegedly sent threatening messages to her family members and friends. Doe pleaded guilty in December 2020 and was sentenced this week by Circuit Judge James Daley. In addition to the three year prison sentence, he will be placed on probation for five years upon release and must pay $2,000 in restitution fees. Judge Daley said during sentencing that Doe’s actions were “reprehensible” and that he deserved the punishment he received. He also noted that domestic violence is an issue of great concern in the state of Florida and should not be taken lightly. Doe’s attorney argued that his client had suffered from mental health issues prior to committing the crime but ultimately accepted responsibility for his actions. The victim did not attend the sentencing hearing but issued a statement saying she hoped Doe would receive help while incarcerated so he could become a better person when released from prison.
