Today marks the Punya Tithi of one of India’s most beloved freedom fighters, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. On this day, we pay homage to him and recall his everlasting contribution to India, especially in uniting our nation and giving impetus to all-round development. Born on October 31st 1875 in Gujarat, Patel was a prominent leader in the Indian National Congress and played a major role in India’s struggle for independence from British rule. He is fondly remembered as the ‘Iron Man of India’ for his unwavering commitment towards achieving self-rule for his countrymen. Patel worked tirelessly towards unifying 562 princely states into one unified nation after independence was declared in 1947. His efforts resulted in the formation of the Republic of India that we know today. He also worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru to ensure that there were no communal riots or civil unrest during this period of transition from colonial rule to self-governance. In addition to being instrumental in forming an independent India, Patel also had a great vision for its development which he expressed through various initiatives such as land reforms, industrialization projects and agricultural policies. He established several institutions such as All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay among others which have been crucial in making higher education accessible across the country even today. The legacy left behind by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel continues to be felt across generations even today – not only through tangible monuments like The Statue Of Unity but also through intangible values such as unity and integrity that are deeply ingrained within our society. We must strive to uphold these values while working together towards building a strong future for our nation – just like he did during his lifetime!
