Taliban Takeover Celebrations Come Back to Haunt Pakistan

Just a year ago, the Taliban takeover of Kabul was met with celebration in many parts of Pakistan. The militant group had promised to bring peace and stability to the region, and many were hopeful that it would be able to do so. However, now those same people are expressing horror at the ongoing TTP attacks in Pakistan. The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is an umbrella organization of various militant groups based in northwestern Pakistan and Afghanistan. The group has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks across both countries since its formation in 2007. In recent months, these attacks have become increasingly frequent and more deadly. The most recent attack occurred on April 4th when a suicide bomber detonated explosives outside a church in Lahore, killing 15 people and injuring over 70 others. This was followed by another attack on April 16th when militants stormed a police training center near Quetta, killing 61 people and wounding 165 others. These two attacks alone demonstrate just how serious the threat posed by the TTP is to Pakistani citizens. It's no surprise then that those who celebrated the Taliban takeover of Kabul last year are now expressing horror at what's happening in their own country. It seems that they failed to realize just how dangerous this group could be if allowed to operate unchecked within their borders. Now they must face up to the consequences of their actions as they watch innocent civilians suffer at the hands of these terrorists. The government has taken steps towards addressing this issue by launching military operations against TTP strongholds throughout the country but it remains unclear whether or not these efforts will be successful in eliminating this threat once and for all. Until then, it appears that those who celebrated last year’s Taliban takeover will continue to live with regret as they witness firsthand just how devastating its consequences can be for ordinary citizens across Pakistan.
