In a recent campaign speech, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden challenged President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan by saying, “Let’s make Ukraine great again.” The comment came during a rally in Philadelphia on Saturday night. Biden was discussing the need for better relations between the United States and other countries when he made the statement. He said that it was important to remember that there are other countries in the world besides America and that they deserve respect and support from the United States. Biden went on to say that he wanted to see more cooperation between America and Ukraine, citing his own experience as Vice President under Barack Obama. He said that he had worked closely with Ukrainian leaders during his time in office and praised their efforts to fight corruption and promote democracy in their country. The comment has been seen as a direct challenge to President Trump’s slogan of “Make America Great Again,” which has become a rallying cry for many of his supporters. While some have applauded Biden for his message of international cooperation, others have criticized him for not focusing enough on domestic issues like jobs or healthcare. Trump has yet to respond directly to Biden's comment but White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders did issue a statement saying that Trump is focused on making sure Americans are taken care of first before worrying about other countries. She also noted that Trump had done more than any previous president when it comes to strengthening ties with Ukraine, citing increased military aid given by the US government since 2017. It remains unclear if this will be an issue during the upcoming election season but one thing is certain – both candidates will be looking for ways to differentiate themselves from each other as they make their case for why they should be elected president come November 2020.
