Working People of Baltimore, Scranton, and Claymont: The Backbone of America

These three cities have long been known for their hardworking citizens who go to work every day and bust their necks to make a living. In Baltimore, there has been a long history of economic hardship due to its location on the Chesapeake Bay. In Scranton, Pennsylvania’s coal industry has been in decline since the 1970s leaving many out of work. And in Claymont, Delaware’s steel industry has seen significant job losses due to automation and outsourcing over the past few decades. Despite these challenges, people from all three cities continue to show resilience and determination as they strive for better lives for themselves and their families. President Biden understands this struggle firsthand as he was born in Scranton himself and his father worked at Bethlehem Steel before being laid off during tough times in the city’s economy.
